“Dear Lucy, Did you think I had forgotten you? Am having a nice time. Very cool here. It is Monday evening 9:30. Ready for bed. Didn’t get up until 11:30. Are you busy? It’s busy here. Had a fair trip. Has Martin called you? Haven’t heard from him. With Love, your friend Ella” Postmarked July 13, 1928
Someone should tell Ella that if she didn’t go to bed at 9:30 and get up 11:30, she would have more hours in the day and wouldn’t be quite as busy!
I like the picture on this card. I like the wide street and the big shade trees that line it. I like the simple white houses with their welcoming porches. I can imagine neighbors calling out a greeting to each other from the porch. I can imagine Mothers calling their children to dinner from the porch, or children eagerly running up the steps to Grandma’s house for one of her warm, chocolate chip cookies.
Life has changed a lot since 1928, but some things remain the same. People still like to take the opportunity to sleep in and we still love warm, chocolate chip cookies.
