Long Lake

longlakeThere are several Long Lakes in Michigan, and many of them have already been visited by this site.  Today I am featuring the Long Lake which is located in Hope Township, not to be confused with another Long Lake in Barry County, which is located in Yankee Springs Township.

This is a well wooded Michigan lake of 292 acres of surface waters with reported depths of up to 60 feet. This long and narrow lake is over two miles long. The day I visited this jewel of a lake, there were a number of fisherman hoping to take home some of the lakes bluegill and bass. There have also been reports of pike and perch catches at times.

The two hundred plus homes surrounding the lakefront have recently approved a community sewer system, allowing a much healthier lake in the future. Lakes that have municipal systems tend to see the lakefront residences improve, often expanding or tearing down and rebuilding their properties.

There is a public access on the lakes southwest side maintained by the DNR. The site offers limited parking and a vault style restroom.

On the north end of the lake is Camp Michawana, a Christian camp with 180+ acres and an estimated 1000 feet of lakefront.

Summer is here, enjoy a Michigan lake and please respect the rights others on the lake.
